With the times we’re currently living in, getting value for money is more important than ever. Consumers in the market for a new or used car are not only looking for something reasonably priced, they’re looking for something that will continue to give them value for money in the long run. While diesels are more popular than ever, an increasing amount of Irish people are choosing to go for a hybrid. Toyota has led the way on the technology, with it’s announcement of the world’s first mass produced hybrid, the Toyota Prius in 1997. Initial feelings of scepticism were quickly forgotten as the Prius went from being a niche car to Toyota’s third best selling model in America in 2003. Things look to be improving even further with the release of the latest model last year, offering more power and comfort while improving on performance and emissions.
Better fuel consumption, less CO2 emissions and lower tax are some of the many benefits afforded by Hybrid vehicles. Recent studies have shown the latest Prius achieving up to 75 mpg, representing serious fuel efficiency and big savings over ordinary petrol cars. Taxing a hybrid is also far cheaper, with massive reductions based on the low CO2 emissions produced, tax on a new Prius being as low as €104 a year!

And it’s not just the Toyota Prius, with a wide range of Toyota, Lexus and Mini vehicles now available in Hybrid form. Lexus is leading the way on performance hybrids with the realese of the new RX450H hybrid SUV, and new hybrid saloons in the LS and GS ranges.

With value for money more important than ever, maybe it’s time you considered switching to a hybrid, saving money in the short and long term.
